1 PRINCIPLE OF LEADERSHIP
Crisis Management using Path-Goal Theory :
Crisis Management is considered to be one of the parts of an organization because due
to the lack of adequate resources crisis can be seen. Crisis can be of different types in terms
of resources such as human resources, financial resources, technological resources and many
more other considerations. Therefore in order to manage those crises, there are different
theories that an organization can take into consideration among which one is the Path-goal
theory where the name suggests that setting a path or goal for workers by a leader can
minimize the crisis in an effective way (Bowers, Hall & Srinivasan, 2017 ). The theory has
been developed by Robert House in the year of 1971 and according to the author, a good
leader always tries to keep the workers on the right path to achieve the objectives and goals
of an organization and also provides opportunities to the workers for personal development as
well. The strategic leadership approach of different leads is based on the needs of workers
and the environment.
Motivation is one of the key considerations that keep the workers walking on the path
to gaining the business objectives and the role of the leader is to provide the workers with the
basic needs so that there will be adequate human resources for business activities. If aleader
cannot or is unable to manage a workplace, then the retention of the skilled and talented
workforce cannot be done and there will be acrisis of proper manpower for different projects
(Bundy et al.2017 ). Thus setting aproper goal by satisfying the needs of workers can be one
of the effective ways to manage a crisis situation within a workplace. Having transparent
communication and giving the power of sharing ideas and decision making can also
encourage or motivate the workers to have effective nature of working. Knowing what paths
or goals an organization follows and what resources are needed to fulfil the goal can ensure
the workers about walking on the same path as the leaders are walking. According to the
theory, a leader should have the confidence or courage to set goals in such a way so that

workers will be willing to follow the path and can get success accordingly. The connection
between the leader and subordinates can automatically set the path for the business and
personal development of workers. According to the author of the theory, aleader needs to
believe in their vision and even make asacrifice to achieve that by following the same path
the subordinates can use the resources adequately and the issues of crisis management can
also be solved accordingly (Williams et al. 2017 ). Crisis can also be seen in the process of
change management where the lack of resources in terms of technological advancement and
workers to fit for the changes also lag behind. Therefore the leaders will have the role to
make sure that the workers do not afraid of the change process and participate for better
business outcomes.
