The present assessement sheet covers the following learning outcome:
Employ correct tools, methods and measurement techniques, use them to construct quality finished engineering products in a safe and efficient manner and evaluate these engineering products for quality and accuracy.
Thus, given that students have already developed a product according to specific customer requirements they have to manage the manufacture a prototype of the product based on the detailed manufacturing drawings they produced. An Engineering Report has to be given in order to describe in detail the proposed manufacturing procedure and the appropriate quality inspection routines they are to apply. The Engineering Report should have a length of 1000-2000 words.
Assignment Scenario
Your customer, a toolmaker asks you to design a single sided V-block with a clamp that is to be adjustable and capable of clamping cylindrical workpieces with a diameter up to 30mm. The V-block should be able to securelly fix cylundrical workpieces that are to be machined and/or inspected during the manufacturing process. Thus, the V-block is intented to be mountable on a machine tool table.
Your customer‘s manufacturing capabilities include injection molding of plastic parts, machining and precision ginding.
You are alowed to design anything you want as long as the designed V-block can be manufactured in-house. Also, you should consider designing the V-block respecting the manufacturing related issues involved in the economic mass production of the designed products.

Students should examine the manufacturability of the products and select the appropriate manufacturing procedures considering the in-house manufacturing capabilities. Also, the intermediate stages of the manufacturing procedure have to be determined and analysed for each product.
Manufacturing Parameters
Manufacturing Parameters should be calculated and explained. Parameters to be discussed are the procedures utilised, cutting speeds, materials used, tools used, costing estimation etc.
Manufacturing of the Product
Students should manage the successful manufacturing of the product. Also, the final prototype should be assessed regarding its quality and accuracy taking in account the specifications implied by the drawings.
