3. Demonstrate a critical awareness of the current and emerging numerical methods in the field of fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
Coursework Overview
For this assignment you are required to design a concentric double-pipe counterflow, 5-meter-long heat exchanger with crossection shown in Figure 1. The heat exchanger is used to cool the engine oil for a large industrial gas turbine engine. The flow rate of cooling water through the outer annulus is A kg/s and the flow rate of engine oil through the inner annulus is B kg/s. The water and oil enter the outer annulus and inner annulus at temperatures of C C and D C, respectively. Engine oil tube inner diameter is Di = 30 mm. The wall thickness of outer and inner pipes is 2 mm.
