In this assessment item you will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge you have gained in the first five weeks of the course. You will respond to questions pertaining to five scenarios, which will assess your knowledge of important anatomical and physiological concepts relating to body chemistry, cells, and the integumentary and skeletal systems.
This assessment item assesses:
Learning Outcome 1: Explain the key foundations of physiological principles related to the human body.
Learning Outcome 2: Describe the chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, and organ system levels of organisation of the human body.
Learning Outcome 3: Using appropriate terminology, identify the key anatomical structures and explain the key physiological functions of the following systems: a. integumentary, b. skeletal.
Instructions:
Below, there are 5 scenarios. Each scenario has questions related to it. Provide a written response to each question by filling in the blanks on the Answer Sheet provided.

• Word limit of 1000 words (use approximately 200 words to respond to each scenario) needs to be strictly adhered to. The word limit for an assessment item includes in text citations, tables, and quotations. The word limit DOES NOT include the reference list. Please note the marker will cease marking your submitted work once they have reached the 1000 word limit.
• Always refer to the Griffith Health Writing and Referencing Guide. Ensure your assignment format strictly adheres to these guidelines.
• Ensure that you use scholarly literature 1 (digitised readings, research articles, relevant Government reports and textbooks) that has been published within the last five [5] years (between 2016 – 2021 inclusive). You may use Anatomy and Physiology textbooks and relevant journal articles to reference your responses (Clinical Key is a great resource, available online via the Griffith University Library). Use the APA7 referencing style.

If you wanted to remove the patient’s ear, what type of sectional plane would this be?

What two (2) organ systems are affected in Bob’s condition?
The primary organs of these two system are found in which cavities (be specific)?
Question 7.
Most organs of the human body contain all four (4) tissue types working together to allow the organ to perform its specific function. Name and describe the function of two (2) specific tissue types that are found within the heart. In your answer you must include a unique feature of each tissue type that allows it to perform this function.

Identify and describe two functions of the skin, one for the dermis and one for the epidermis, that would be compromised by the burns. Your answer should include the specific name of a cell type or structure that is damaged.
Question 9.
Describe in detail the homeostatic mechanism used by the body to counteract the low plasma calcium level. Your answer should include the three major components of the homeostatic mechanism and one function of each. Is this an example of positive or negative feedback, explain why?
Question 10.
Martin is curious whether the exhaustion he experiences is associated with his disease knowing the function of the mitochondria, what would you say to Martin?
Question 11.
Martin is concerned about his future offspring inheriting the disease. Answer the following questions regarding mendelian inheritance patterns (you may use punnet squares to help your working out, but they don’t need to be included in your answer).
a. If both parents are carriers (heterozygous) for a recessively inherited gene, what % of offspring will manifest the disease?
b. If only one parent contains a single copy (heterozygous) of a dominantly inherited disorder and the other parent is homozygous recessive, what % of offspring will have the disorder?
c. A mother is a carrier for an X-linked disease (the father does not have the disease), what % of males will manifest the disease?
And what % of females will manifest the disease?
Explain why there may be a difference in X-linked inheritance patterns between males and females.
